Phases

My 4th solo album, Phases, is a series of minimalist classical-inspired pieces for synthesizer. Bridging the gap between new classical music, classical electronic music, and the improvised avant garde, this suite approaches the idea of synthesizer as instrument. Like traditional instruments, synthesizers have individual personalities within a wide sonic spectrum. This particular instrument, the Vermona Perfourmer, has a unique four voice architecture – essentially four monophonic synths in one. Some of the pieces are written for four individual voices as if ensemble members, and others pass notes around from voice to voice in a swirling rotation.

Recorded live with no overdubs, this new set of pieces combines
composed, generative, and improvised elements all centered around different concepts of phasing.
